In Competition With....Myself?

Hi everyone. Just want to thank everyone for their comments on the last post. Lately I’ve been receiving comments about improvements in my work. Many times on this blog I’ve often whined about how bad my work is, or I request constructive criticism ( I still do) but I actually really appreciate the fact you guys can see me growing. It’s really encouraging and gives me a real charge so thanks you for that. Really.

I haven’t been drawing much lately. Just been a bit stuck, especially with the life stuff. I realised a few days ago that I’m always trying to top my last post, to do something better. I think that’s why the gaps between posts are getting bigger and bigger. While I’m all about growing and getting better, I think I’m forgetting to enjoy what I do. It’s supposed to be fun (that’s what I meant about attitude Ken) so this post is probably some of my weaker life studies, but I’m not waiting till I have some better ones. I’m rusty but, I had fun drawing them and using ink washes. It was cool being in borders, with good company, a big cookie and a cup of Hot Chocolate. I’ll post again real soon now that I’m having fun...

And Again....

Wes

PS: I responded to everyones comments on the last post so er....check the comments.

A post again!?!...i think I’ve just time travelled into the future! 1.21 Giga Watts my arse! Just a strong cup of tea does the trick :)

Dude i have to say that i don't think that these are weak (i can't see a lot worng with them?), and if you've been hiding this standard of work because you only wanted to post what you considered to be better, then i think that’s a dawn shame. I’d love to see more of this.

Ok, i know you can do better, but it doesn't mean that these are weak. In fact I prefer this post to your last post, i think you have a real eye for capturing, and successfully portraying people in moments.

So you might be unhappy with the way these people look or something, but I fully understand that these are people in a book shop of some sort, looking for and picking out books. There great! My favourites are the 3rd one down from the top, and the 3rd one up from the bottom. Just great observational drawings.

In sport they say the sign of true champions is when they still win even when they have a dip in there form.

So even if you think you (or anyone else) could pick these drawings apart, i think that you couldn’t dispute there level of communication.

Love the alpha ken by the way. Colour him! or do another colabo with Kenneth

I find myself in the same situation trying to improve my life drawings and figure drawings. A book I live by but you may not need is "Figure Drawing: For All Its Worth". I've read the thing a million times and learn something new every time.

If you want a copy hit me up. Because its out of print.

P.S. Wish I could offer some sort of constructive criticism but your light speeds ahead of me.

Dang! Its been only three weeks since your last post. How time flies...
Dude these aren't weak. On the contrary. I really like em. The stand out sketch by far is the woman bending down to view a book. The delightful hands between legs is a priceless pose. Well done for getting that down.
Now as huey lewis says , "imma go back in tiiimeeee."

Beautiful sketches my friend!! I'm always impressed by an individuals desire to increase their skill level. Not many artist put as much thought into their art or style as you are...so good on you. You will improve greatly because of it...and have already. One of my favorite quotes - 'Think more, Design less.'
The more thought (and therefore, heart) we put into our work, the more opportunity it has to live. The less thought we put in, the less likely it is that it will appeal to others, or hold attention very long...of a viewer or ourselves. More heart = more improvement. And you've got an artists heart for sure. Keep up the great work my friend.

I love your latest sketch dump. That Ken sketch really brings back memories of of the days when I used to put my quarters up on the Street Fighter II arcade games...just to hold my place in line.

The baby sketch is fantastic! You should submit it to Illustration Friday. "baby" is the subject of the week.
