BIIIIIIGGGG POST.......

Thanks for all the comments on the last post everyone. Really appreciate it. Just started a temp job stacking boxes and moving files...I need an animation Job quick. Just in case anyone’s wondering (all of LAS14 probably), I still want to work on my film, admittedly I haven’t touched it in a while, just been lazy. It’s important I finish it but don’t expect it before Christmas, next post will be some animation (I hope). I’m really enjoying drawing lately, especially from life, but for some reason hands are real struggle of late, maybe I need a break. I’m trying to experiment with the way I present my work. Most of these are from my A6 sketch book, drawn from life. The bigger pages are just random while watching Good Will Hunting and Braveheart (my favourite film of all time). I scanned some textured paper and placed it in the background to make them look more interesting. Sometimes I want to present the work raw, other times I want to work on my presentations skills. At first I didn’t really like colouring my life studies, but some of the colour combinations I’ve seen on people would have never entered my mind. So now I take note even If I don’t apply colour. Anyway, hope you like. By the way does anyone know how to use letratone on Photoshop? Let me know.

And Again….
Wes

hey you stole my message title lol. only my post wasnt quite as big as yours.
but shit dude! loving those life studies. best ones you posted here so far. I especially like the old woman at the bench. And the one in the car too, that perspective is great.
You gotta post a tutorial on how you colour your sketches. I really wanna try that too sometime.

by the way, that doodle of the guy sitting on the back of the bloke doing push ups made me laugh out loud.

anyway im gonna go out to draw right away, this has inspired me.

WOW, huge post!

I love your drawing style, really nice and solid. The Braveheart drawings rock, but then I am biased!

Dont know if your interested but the company I work for is hiring Inbetweeners... They are outsourcing for studio Django, doing inbetweening on Sylvain Chomets new feature. www.inkanimations.com

lookin forward to more posts

i just left a post, but i'm not sure if it went through or not coz explorer crashed! i'll say it again, but shorter
:)

loving the new presentation. I really like the car drawing, and the good will hunting stuff was great - i guessed it straight away; especially loved the way you coloured the chalk board. Also liked the sketch of the girl on the phone saying hello.

Thanks guys,
Maarten, What do you mean I tole your tittle??? I have more 'I's and 'G's LOL. Maybe I'll do a tutorial, but there are so many ways to go about something in Photoshop, all depends on what you want to do.

Ken, Braveheart is AMAZING, I love that film. I think I'll gor that Job. Thanks for the shout.

Tim, er the chalk board is er...actually a real chalk board LOL

Wow dude, you do not cease to amaze. I am working on filling a sketchbook as we speak to do a huge post and I think I'll take a note from you and do some digital colors instead of watercolors for a lot of it. Less warp. Anyway, sweet post.

Your work is so inspirational. I will definitely check back again.

Great sketches! Truly inspiring. I've been trying to get back in the analog mode and sketch from life as well. I agree life drawing classes are expensive, but I just forced myself to go once a week. It's so hard to commit sometimes...but it's worth it.

Great story in this post. I'm finalizing a freelance job, temping at an office (filing), and animating shorts (practice). As you can see, I'm typing this at 3 in da morning. So art/animation is always in my head.

So cheers!....to the struggle...of becoming a full time illustrator/animator.

simply beautiful, wes. hats off, my man.

your right dude. I sometimes just think too much. that can be really annoying.
I should just relax... but im pretty confident i will.
currently im not in a slump or anything so ill save the rest for when I am, but still its good to hear, ive had days that i really didnt feel like drawing and it would depress me cause i thought a real artist should always want to draw. ah...yeah good to hear.
thanks for your words of wisdom, im learning a lot.

Great sketches!:)

Hey dude!

Congrats on getting the test, dont be too nervous, everyone is really nice, its fairly chilled out up here man.

Have you done much inbetweening before? They are looking for the ability to make a strong inbetween, keeping volumes and arcs and all that stuff, and a big point is being able to keep to the style and draw the characters on model. From what Ive seen you can draw VERY well, dont think u got to worry!

best of luck to you mate, see u in a couple weeks!

Thanks for the comment. Your blog has so much good stuff in it, it's a bit overwhelming! Nice life drawings & use of color. Did you do that in photoshop?

some more excellent work man!

Best of luck with the search for the job. hope its comin along as you should be definately makin some company happy with your slick skills

Thanks everyone for the kind comments,

DMCA: That guy is my friend Dexter, he came to the studio a few times.

Joe: I like digital colours but I need to go analogue at some point, nothing can replace that skill.

Mina Glo: I’m not in America either bro, perhaps one day though

Gerald: I’m only doing odd jobs temping; soon as pay gets regular, I’m hitting those classes every week. I think it’s so important to my growth.

Shouren: Thanks bro. I don’t think it I’ll do it this way all the time. I just think I should find interesting ways of presenting things.

David: I don’t think I’m creative enough to be a concept designer, bit of a one trick pony at the mo. I don’t really know much about art either. I’d probably do it in addition to something else.

Valerie: Hand drawn and coloured in Photoshop.

Thanks guys.

haha your comments made me so happy. on the other hand it makes me a little scared to regress but that doesnt make any sense I guess.
im enjoying life drawing more and more, this week Im trying out watercoloring, which makes sketching even more fun.
thanks for your advice on weight, im gonna try to draw more of the surroundings too instead of only drawing the person.

Thank you so much for your comment on my blog, I was so pleased to have a comment from you as you are obviously a very talented artist. My favourites are the drawings on the darker paper, the colours stand out so much against the dark background and really come to life! And you have so many blog readers!!
Steve has showed us some of your work before. Are you coming to see the CSM degree show this year? It's the 20th June! Nikki
